A claim has been staked for an £177million EuroMillions jackpot won by a UK ticket-holder, the National Lottery has said.

Lottery players had previously been urged to check their tickets after incorrect winning numbers were initially distributed following Tuesday night's draw.

The error occurred when an extra number was mistakenly added to the National Lottery's winning line-up. The Press Association has been identified as the source of the error and has since issued a correction.

Tuesday's lucky jackpot winner is taking home the third biggest National Lottery prize of all time, operator Allwyn said.

The winner will now have to validate their claim before they can bag the money.

It takes the bronze for largest sum of money behind two jackpots won in 2022.

The second largest prize was won by Joe and Jess Thwaite, from Gloucester, who scooped a then record-breaking £184,262,899 on May 10, 2022.

They were then bested just two months later, when an anonymous UK ticket-holder scooped the record EuroMillions jackpot of £195million on July 19 2022. They became and still are, the biggest National Lottery win of all time.

The historic win marks another significant milestone for the National Lottery, with the winner joining an elite group of British lottery millionaires.

If the ticket holder is an individual rather than a syndicate, they will instantly become wealthier than some of Britain's most celebrated musicians, including Harry Styles and Adele.

The winner now faces a significant decision regarding their newfound wealth.

They can choose whether to go public with their extraordinary win or maintain their privacy by requesting anonymity.

This choice will be available to them once they have claimed their prize and the winning ticket has been validated.
