One Direction singer Liam Payne has sparked an online misogyny row amongst a few of his fans after making a comment towards the way his new girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, was dressed.
Payne found fame on X Factor in 2010 after Simon Cowell paired five solo artists together and formed the band One Direction - shooting to global stardom and creating five sell-out albums.
Despite his musical success, Payne hasn't had the best of luck when it comes to his dating life and has explored relationships with Danielle Peazer, Sophie Smith, Cairo Dwek, Naomi Campbell, Maya Henry, Aliana Mawla, and of course, Cheryl Cole.
His most recent relationship is with influencer Kate Cassidy, with the pair embarking on their romance back in October 2022, and were spotted together at an A-list Halloween party.
Payne has also dealt with some social media backlash over the years, especially after he went onto Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast and claimed that he was the inspiration behind Cowell's decision to create the band.
Now, the 30-year-old has been dragged into more drama after some fans weren't impressed with the comment he made towards the way Cassidy was dressed in a recent TikTok video.
who did it best
The 25-year-old shared a video on her TikTok account showing off their outfits ahead of their date night - with Cassidy wearing a fitted black waistcoat and cropped trousers.
As Cassidy was excited for their night out, Payne looked unbothered at the camera before commenting on her appearance: "Looking good, nice and covered up for once."
This left fans outraged in the comments, with one slamming: "The fact that he would always claim to be the 'nice' and 'kind' one from 1D…. yikes! A soon-to-be raging misogynist."
"For once' is actually insane…" another said before a third fumed: "Liam you have a song called Strip That Down, make up your mind."
Someone else commented: "Girl I know you faking that laugh on the end."
However, some were quick to defend the History singer as one said: "Why do people get so mad when a man expresses how he likes his gf to dress? She obviously still wears what she wants."
Another added: "So many people think they know exactly what's going on based on a 6-second video. It's disgusting how so many people find it so easy to hate. Shame on you." (sic)
Cassidy also responded to the backlash with another TikTok video, where she explained that she told Payne to make the joke because she rarely gets "dressed up."

She said: "If you look at my Instagram. I actually don't cover up too much. Honestly, I'm 25, I kinda just wear what I want. And he doesn't care at all."
Payne and Cole welcomed their son Bear in 2017, but just a few months later in February 2018, it was reported that his constant travelling to promote his solo career had placed a huge strain on the relationship.
Five months later, the couple released a joint statement admitting they decided to separate, but still remain good friends and co-parent Bear.
The statement confirming their break-up read: "We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It's been a tough decision for us to make.
“We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together."
