Publican and political commentator Adam Brooks says he was left with no desire to watch the Olympics after its “woke” opening ceremony.
The Paris games are drawing to a close with the closing ceremony taking place tonight, and they have not been without controversy.
The curtain raiser sparked fury as it appeared to feature a number of drag artists in a scene akin to Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’ painting portraying Jesus and his twelve disciples.
The official social media account of the Olympics has since dispelled comparisons, claiming it was actually an “interpretation of the Greek god Dionysus”.
Speaking on GB News, Brooks said it left him with little desire to watch the games.
“You’ve brought the wrong panellist on to talk about the Olympics - I was away for much of it on holiday”, he said.
“But to be fair, I haven’t wanted to watch it after the opening ceremony. It was so woke, so cringeworthy.
“It was utter nonsense. It was embarrassing.”
Brooks then went on to touch upon the controversial case of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who competed at the games and romped to gold despite failing IBA (international Boxing Association) tests.
“It’s highlighted fairness and safety in women’s sport”, he said.
“Hopefully something will come out of these Olympic Games. Women must be protected in sport.”
Following her gold medal, Khelif launched a legal battle against online harassment, as confirmed by her lawyer on Saturday.
She has always maintained she is a woman after a furious reaction to her opening bout win against Italian Angela Carini, who ended their bout just 46 seconds in, declaring “this is unjust”.
Carini went on to leave the ring in tears as she conceded defeat without acknowledging Khelif - an action she later admitted to regretting.
The likes of Elon Musk, JK Rowling and Donald Trump have all weighed in on her competing in the women’s category, leaving Khelif furious and demanding justice.
In the wake of her victory over Carini, the Algerian said such negative attention “harms human dignity” and called for more respectful treatment of athletes.
