Canada's Alysha Newman celebrated winning bronze at the Paris Olympics by twerking to the crowd on Wednesday night.

The 30-year-old claimed her country's first Olympic medal in women's pole vault with a height of 4.85 metres, setting a new Canadian record in the process.

Away from the track, Newman generates income on OnlyFans by charging £10 a month.

And the Canadian celebrated winning bronze on Wednesday by twerking for the crowd at the Stade de France in Paris.

Newman, who is from Delaware, cleared the same height as rival Katie Moon.

However, she was forced to settle for bronze instead of silver after her rival missed one height less.

Australia's Nina Kennedy claimed gold, with the 27-year-old helping her country tighten their grip on third in the medal table.

Kennedy endured an early miss at 4.70m but then went over 4.80m, 4.85m and 4.90m - with the third and final height enough for her to finish top of the podium.

Australia now have 18 golds for the first time in their history, with that record being set with four days to come.

"I'm here, I'm a gold medallist, that is so sick," she told Nine.

"I felt really calm. I came in with a job... I came in with a job, and intention and today I told myself to get to work. 'Do your job' and this is the result."

As for Newman, the Canada star admitted she was delighted after winning bronze.

"I'm so excited," she said. "I laugh because getting third is, I mean I've never got third, but it's funny because you have to still wait and sit there and wait until the other girls are done.

"So I'm so awkwardly standing there like, 'What do I do? Do I celebrate? Do I kiss everyone? Do I cry?'

"It was a really surreal moment and it was awesome.

"I just feel like I'm very emotionally stable right now and just feel so honoured to be the first [women's] pole vaulter to bring home an Olympic medal for Canada."

Addressing her celebration, she continued: "I just was excited about my celebration. Did you guys like that?

"My fake injury because I'm always injured, that was the whole thing."

Newman struggled at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and believes she has learned from that experience.

"Tokyo happened and it built so much character for me heading into this Games," she said.

"I felt like I was stronger than ever, mentally tough — I never gave up on myself this year and when things went bad, I still smiled and that's huge.

"I'm happy, still, when I lose. I don't think a lot of athletes feel that way.

"And so I'm honoured that I could step off the track with a bad day and still go home and feel accomplished because I've done so much in this sport and this keeps adding to my resume."
