Dr David Starkey tells GB News he despairs at “multi-tier” Britain which he says has come about as a result of woke ideology.

He argued that the liberal use of terms like 'far-right' and 'racist' are destroying the country.

Speaking to Steve Edginton, the award-winning historian delivered a plea as he acknowledged he “won’t be alive much longer”.

He hit out at the “mess” sparked by racism accusations, which he says are being thrown about increasingly in a woke age.

“The term racist has become absurd”, he said.

“I have been vehemently denouncing violence. I have been trying to say there are enormous numbers of immigrants who are remarkable and make a remarkable contribution to our society.

“How have I not been trying to look at what might be a way forward in our history? We were always bicultural, we had two identities. We had a juridical identity of being British, and we had separate British, national English, Welsh, whatever it was.

“That offers the way forward and again, the absolute refusal to talk about these things and the sprinkling of the word racism being sprinkled around is exactly why we’re in the mess we are now. It’s also applied so shockingly unevenly.”

Discussing Britain’s “multi-tier” racism, Starkey claimed the left are often able to get away with blatant acts of discrimination without being held to the same level of scrutiny as those on the right.

“Can I remind everybody about Diane Abbott’s deeply racist remarks about blue eyed, blonde-haired Swedish nurses transgressing into her sacred NHS?”, he asked.

“It was totally uncalled out.”

Starkey, who was awarded a CBE in 2007 for services to history, has long been an outspoken conservative voice in the political sphere.

He made it clear to Steve that he wanted to put his sentiments forward and do so without fear of erasure as he acknowledged his advancing years.

“The reason I’m speaking is frankly, because I care about my country”, he said.

“I’m an old man. I’m not going to live very much longer. I have nothing particularly to lose.

“I’m not aiming for political office. I’m playing the part of either a Cassandra or an Old Testament prophet. No doubt, prophets are always without honour in their own countries.

“Why do I think my analysis is right? I have quite a lot of experience and I’m quite a good historian. On the other hand, I’m not sufficiently arrogant to think that it’s the only one automatically right.

“What I will say is, until we can debate this freely, without the charges of far-right being flung around, we will get nowhere.”
