Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been accused of failing to pay a penny in tax on £21million of revenue from their online businesses.

Devon & Cornwall Police will bring a civil claim against the Tates and a third person, referred to as J, at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

The force is seeking around £2.8million in seven frozen bank accounts.

Sarah Clarke KC for Devon & Cornwall Police said: “Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate are serial tax and VAT evaders. They, in particular Andrew Tate, are brazen about it.”

In a video quoted in court, the 37-year-old self-proclaimed misogynist said: “When I lived in England I refused to pay tax.”

Clarke claimed money “washed around UK bank accounts” and was used “as a mechanism for moving revenues from their business activities through a wide number of accounts”.

She added: “That’s what tax evasion looks like, that’s what money laundering looks like.”

The Tates have been accused of failing to pay tax and money laundering in both the UK and Romania.

Devon & Cornwall Police allege that this constitutes fraud by false misrepresentation.

Civil proceedings require a lower standard of proof than compared to criminal cases.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring will decide on the balance of probabilities whether what the police claim is true.

The case at Westminster Magistrates' Court has been adjourned until tomorrow.

The development comes shortly after Tate declared he was free following a ruling from the Bucharest Tribunal.

It found the brothers could travel within the European Union while awaiting trial in Romania.

The Tates had been banned from leaving Romania until Friday.

However, the decision is not yet final and prosecutors can file for an appeal.

Tate was charged alongside his brother for human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women in mid-2023.

Two female suspects from Romania have also been charged as part of the case.

The quartet have all strongly denied the allegations made against them.
