Zara and Mike Tindall are “full of energy” and are ideal candidates to step into the royal fold while Princess Anne recovers from minor injuries, according to a royal commentator.

The Princess Royal is in hospital after suffering ‘minor injuries and concussion’.

Anne is expected to make a full and swift recovery after she was given medical care at the scene of the incident, where she is believed to have been kicked by a horse, before being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for appropriate tests, treatment and observation.

Anne is one of the Royal Family’s most active members in terms of duties and has played an important role stepping up to support King Charles amid his cancer.

Speaking on GB News, Helena Chard suggested royals like Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, could be encouraged to help by stepping into the royal fold.

“There’s definitely room, we can see the cousins stepping up when needed, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice”, she said.

“There’s definitely room for Zara and Mike [Tindall]. They’re full of energy and give complete energy to the Royal Family which is needed.

“We saw them all at Royal Ascot, so animated and full of fun and also united.

“I did not see a Royal Family that is weak and needs help. I think they are giving out a great message.

“As long as the cousins are there and will step in when needed, watch this space.”

While fringe figures would be a welcome addition to the royal fold, Chard was keen to stress that she expects Anne to be back in no time.

She added that the 73-year-old is a vital component to the royal establishment and will continue to be so.

“The Princess Royal is definitely part of the Royal Family and this is just minor wounds she has sustained”, she told Tom Harwood and Emily Carver.

“She is so dutiful as we see the Princess of Wales also is. I would say Princess Anne is equally so, if not more.”

The princess, often dubbed the hardest-working royal, is known for her no-nonsense approach and her commitment to royal duty.

At Trooping the Colour earlier this month, she was pictured expertly keeping her horse under control when it appeared agitated.

Anne won the individual championship at Burghley in 1971, and was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

In 1976, she took part in the Montreal Olympics as a three-day eventer with the British equestrian team.
