The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Jay Slater has deepened after a Tenerife Airbnb owner opened up on the last time she saw the missing teen.

Slater, 19, from Lancashire, vanished on Monday morning after speaking to his friend Lucy at around 8am.

The Brit’s phone last pinged in a vast mountainous area around half a mile north of Masca.

Slater was seemingly walking back to the south of the island when he phoned his friend Lucy with just one per cent on his battery.

He also reportedly said he needed a drink of water.

The 19-year-old has not been seen since and a huge search is now underway.

Ophelia, the owner of the holiday rental Casa Abuela Tina, where Slater is understood to have stayed with two people he met on the island after partying at the NRG festival spoke out about his disappearance.

She told Manchester Evening News: "It’s dangerous walking around here, it’s easy to lose yourself.

Officers were seen looking over the mountains with binoculars.

Mountain rescue teams were also spotted wading through the overgrown hills.
