Former US President Donald Trump has been praised for his latest election pledge by US Political Commentator Tim Young, in a move he claims is "brilliant" for working Americans.

Announcing the plans at a Nevada campaign rally, Donald Trump pledged to exclude tips from federal taxes for workers across the United States.

In his speech, Trump declared: "To those hotel workers and people who get tips, you are going to be very happy, because when I get to office we are going to not charge taxes on tips, people making tips.

"We’re going to do that right away, first thing in office."

Reacting to the plans on GBN America, Young lauded the former US leader and says the move will be "very beneficial" to the hospitality workers.

Young explained to host Mark Dolan: "I think it's a brilliant move. Here in America, we have a tipping culture, where restaurants pay these poor people $2 an hour or $3 an hour, as opposed to the minimum wage, which is $15 in most places.

"And so a majority of their wages come from tips that can fluctuate up and down."

Praising the "smart" plan by Trump, Young added: "I think it's very, very beneficial to that class of people who have to work in restaurants.

"A lot of times, people skirt taxes already by getting cash tips and not reporting them, so I think it's very smart."

Agreeing with Young's view on the plans, Mark noted how Trump will be perceived as a "man of the people" with his election pledge.

Mark told GBNA: "It goes against the narrative of tax cuts for the rich, this is tax cuts for ordinary working Americans.

"I think the optics of that are very positive - Donald Trump, man of the people!"

In contrast, Young explained that one of the key benefits programs for low-income families is being "given to people who don't deserve it" by President Joe Biden and his administration.

Turning the discussion to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides benefits to eligible low-income individuals and families via an Electronic Benefits Transfer card, Young claimed the program has been "expanded exponentially" and is being claimed by "drug dealers".

Young told Mark: "SNAP has been doubled by the Biden administration, and given to people who don't necessarily deserve it, like drug dealers, convicted drug dealers.

"It's when these programs are so expanded and not monitored that we see where this money is going. That's when the concern grows.

"Everybody wants people who are truly in need to be able to get out of that situation. And in order to get out of that situation, they do deserve assistance."
