A man has been charged with 'threatening behaviour' after objects were thrown at Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
The 60-year-old was targeted while on an open-top bus in Barnsley town centre.
Now, South Yorkshire Police has confirmed Josh Greally, 28, has been charged with using threatening behaviour towards Nigel Farage.
A Police spokesperson yesterday said: "We have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of public order offences following disorder in Barnsley town centre today.
They continued: "It is believed that the man threw objects from a nearby construction area. A suspect was quickly detained and remains in police custody."
Speaking at a rally in Great Yarmouth on Tuesday, the Reform UK leader described the situation as "very difficult because I actually like going out meeting people".
He said: "All I can say is that whilst it’s concerning and whilst of course it does make me thoughtful and I may need to change tactics, slightly.
"But I’m going to make one promise to you… and my promise is this: I will not surrender to the mob, I will not stop campaigning, this democratic process has to continue."
Politicians from other parties joined Mr Farage in condemning "violence" towards General Election candidates.
Home Secretary James Cleverly said: "There must be no place for violence and intimidation in our politics and these actions should be condemned by everyone."
Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Barnsley South Stephanie Peacock said: "Intimidation has no place in our politics. I condemn the violence we saw in Barnsley town centre today."
It comes just one week after Victoria Thomas Bowen, 25, was charged with assault by beating and criminal damage when a milkshake was thrown over Farage after he left a Wetherspoons pub in Essex.
