Bev Turner says the music young people listen to is a key contributor to youth violence.

She spoke on GB News after two 12-year-old boys were found guilty of murdering a 19-year-old in a machete attack.

The pair are thought to have become the youngest knife murderers in the UK after jurors unanimously convicted the pair on Monday.

Bev lamented the rise of youth crime in the UK and said genres of music like rap and drill could be contributors due to the often violent lyrics.

“I think this is an absolute failure of society”, she said.

“When you’ve got a 12-year-old living in a moral vacuum with nothing but bad influence.

“It sounds trite and silly to say, being influenced by music, but there is a problem with that.

“It’s the rap music culture. My kids put it on in the car, they’re posh little white, middle class kids. They listen to this music.

“I’m able to say to them, ‘hang on a minute, kids, do you know what that means? Do you know how violent that lyric is? Do you know what that means about women?’

“Some are listening to these sorts of influences and they have nobody in their life that can offset that and teach them from right or wrong.”

She continued: “The content they’re exposed to will brutalise a 12-year-old to the extent that they’re immune to understanding.

“There’s a complete lack of empathy of what this means.”

The attack took place on 13 November last year, and Shawn Seesahai, 19, died afterwards.

He was struck on his back, legs and skull. The fatal wound to his back was more than 20cm deep and “almost came out” of his chest.

The two boys denied murdering Seesahai but prosecutors deemed them jointly responsible for the savage attack.
