A former government advisor on energy has described Labour’s plan for GB Energy as ‘an extreme example of wishful thinking’.

Clive Moffatt said the Labour Party’s energy pledge didn’t look anything more than a ‘pump prime investment vehicle.'

Speaking on GB News, Clive Moffatt said: “I think that there's been almost a conspiracy of silence between Labour and Conservatives about exactly how realistic, or let's put it this way, how affordable and feasible 2030 and 2035 targets are.

“And I think we need a far more strategic approach to this transition [to net zero] which means to some extent, questioning those targets.

“We haven't ever had, in the time that it's been talked about, decarbonisation of electricity system, we've never really had a proper, overall, comprehensive cost benefit analysis.

“What we have had is a lot of advocacy, which is replacing robust analysis, a lot of wishful thinking. I think GB energy is an extreme example of wishful thinking.

“ I think it doesn't, on the face of it, look more than anything more than a pump prime investment vehicle.”
