An aircraft has crashed in a field near an RAF base in the East Midlands.
Emergency services responded to reports in Coningsby just before 1.20pm of an aircraft crashing in a field.
Officers from Lincolnshire police believe the aircraft is single occupant and nobody else is thought to have been involved.
It is believed a rescue helicopter arrived at the scene after journeying from Humberside.
A nearby resident told GB News: "It was definitely a spitfire. But it sounded sluggish when it took off at about 1.20pm
"It had just took off and we could hear it cough and splutter, It was about 100 m in the air.
"I saw it turn to the left and flip over. We couldn't see it over the trees.
"There was about five to eight fire engines and the Helimed too."
