A woman has been rushed to hospital in an air ambulance after being caught in the cross-fire of a drive-by gun fight between two cars in North London last night.

Armed police rushed to Stamford Hill just after 7.30pm to hunt for gunmen after a woman in her 30s was shot in the leg.

Emergency services joined officers at the scene as the woman was transported to hospital.

The injuries she sustained and her current condition remain unknown.

Two cars were reportedly aiming guns at one another at the time of the shooting.

A “innocent bystander” was then caught up in the crossfire, a source at the scene told the Daily Mail.

One of the vehicles dashed off in the direction of Clapton Common where two more shots were heard.

The Metropolitan Police said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: “Police were called at about 7.40pm on Tuesday, 14 May to reports of a shooting near Reizel Close, Stamford Hill.

“Officers, including specialist firearms officers, and London Ambulance Service attended.

“A woman in her 30s was found with a gunshot injury to her leg.

“She was taken to an east London hospital – we await to hear updates on her condition.

“Officers are working to establish the circumstance of this incident.

“No arrests have been made at this time. A crime scene is in place.”

A London Air Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called at 7:41pm today (May 14) to reports of a shooting at Stamford Hill.

“We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.

“We treated a patient at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
