Donald Trump was allegedly slumped in his chair with his eye closed as the court heard Micheal Cohen's testimony.

It is believed to be the eight time the ex-president appeared to fall asleep during his hush-money criminal trial in New York.

Reporters claim that Trump and his former fixer attempted to avoid eye contact while today's court session continued.

Trump is accused of paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 to ensure her silence about an alleged affair between the pair in the run-up to the 2016 US Presidential Election.

CNN reporter Abby Phillip provided updates from inside the New York City courtroom.

She said: "He looked stoney faced- looked ahead, also had eyes closed and leaned back in his chair."

During the case, Cohen described Trump as a "mob boss" who tried to conceal his fraudulent business dealings.

The ex-lawyer testified he would "lie" and "bully" people on Trump’s behalf.

Trump has previously condemned Cohen as a non-credible "felon" who wants revenge against him.

The Republican has been seemingly caught asleep "at least once a week" over the past five weeks as the trial continues.

On Monday, appeared to be woken up with a nudge from his attorney Todd Blanche.

Trump has rejected the claims on his social platform Truth Social.

In a long post, he denied falling asleep and claimed the trial is based on a "witch hunt" which is politically motivated.

When faced with the accusations that he was asleep, Trump said: "I simply close[d] my beautiful blue eyes, sometimes".

He said he was resting his eyes in order to listen and "take[s] it all in".
