ITV News presenter Rageh Omaar fell "unwell" during the channel's News at Ten programme and is "receiving medical care".

The 56-year-old appeared to stumble over his words and struggled to read the news bulletins.

Responding to the incident, ITV News confirmed that Omaar is "now receiving medical care", adding that he is grateful for all the "well wishes".

An ITV News spokesperson said: "We are aware that viewers are concerned about Rageh Omaar's wellbeing.

"Rageh became unwell while presenting News at Ten on Friday and is now receiving medical care.

"He thanks everyone for their well wishes."

The programme was removed from ITV+1 as a message on screen said: "We'll be back soon. We're temporarily unable to bring you our +1 service. We will resume shortly."

Omaar's condition is unknown and it is still unclear what exactly happened.

During the video, Omaar becomes shaky and appears to struggle with his words during a weekend segment.

Viewers shared their concerns on social media, with one user writing: "I actually can't believe ITV let Rageh Omaar do the whole 30 minute show.

"If he's ill they have a duty of care to him, if he was under the influence they have a responsibility to the viewers. Seriously hope he is OK because that was tough to watch."

Another said: "What happened to him, is he ok & why didn't they take him off air?"

Omaar is the international affairs editor at ITV News and was previously a foreign correspondent for the BBC.

The journalist rose to global prominence covering the war in Iraq for the BBC in 2003.

He joined ITV News as a special correspondent and presenter in January 2013.
