Emergency services are at the scene at a school in South Wales with reports of a major incident.

There have been reports of an incident at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.

Parents have reported seeing dozens of police cars scrambled to the school where a heavy police presence remains.

Dyfed-Powys Police said that one person has been arrested after three people were injured in an incident.

David Llywelyn, who lives opposite the school, told S4C News: "Something serious has happened.

"What I see is two air ambulances on the school field and two ambulance incident support units - there are up to ten police cars here."

WalesOnline is reporting that they are receiving messages from people who say they have relatives who are school staff or pupils who they say are locked in classrooms and other rooms.

However, these reports have not been confirmed.

In a statement, Dfyed-Powys Police said: "Dyfed-Powys Police is dealing with an incident at Amman Valley School.

“Three people have been injured and are receiving treatment. One person has been arrested and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. Emergency services remain at scene and the school has been closed while investigations continue.

“We are working closely with the school and Carmarthenshire County Council. We are aware that there is footage of the incident currently circulating on social media.

"We would ask that this is removed to avoid contempt of court and distress to those affected. We would ask the people do not speculate while there is a police investigation ongoing."

Leader of the Welsh Conservatives Andrew RT Davies MS has said: "The reports emerging from Ysgol Dyffryn Amman are extremely concerning.

"Schools should be a place of safety, learning and discovery. It is deeply sad and distressing that today teachers and pupils have had that safety shattered by a violent incident.

"My thoughts are with all staff and pupils at the school, and we thank the emergency services for their work."
