A police station in the West Midlands has been converted into a block of flats - with one featuring an mental prison cell.

Dudley police station has been transformed into five studio flats after it was closed in 2017.

One of the flats - priced at £750 per month - includes a "holding cell feature" opposite the kitchen area.

The properties come unfurnished but boasts a "modern style open plan kitchen", "three piece white shower room" and "excellent transport links and nearby amenities".

The police station opened during World War Two with a fire and ambulance service situated inside the same building.

Taylors Estate Agents description of the property states: "A FANTASTIC and UNUSUAL opportunity to make this ground floor and spacious studio apartment yours just having had a full refurb the property features a Holding Cell in the studio which is large enough for a living/dining and bedroom area."

The flat has sparked concern online as social media users question what potential tenants may use the "feature" for.

One person wrote: "Have you missed out the bucket under the bed, the en suite facility?"

While another said: "This is not going to end well."

A third added: "Obsessed that the old Dudley police station has been converted to studio flats, and for one of the advertised lettings they’ve kept the holding cell as a 'feature'."

Another suggested: "I would make a cute home office space, I'd put trailing/climbing plants in it."

The police building was closed as part of cost-cutting plans by West Midlands Police.

The head of Lettings at Taylors a future tenant could have "a lot of fun" with the feature.

Charlie Tank said the property had already "attracted a lot of interest" and "viewing appointments are currently underway".

"This is the first flat I have ever offered 'to let' with such an unusual feature, and it is certainly a great talking point. A future tenant could have a lot of fun with it," he told Newsweek.
