Royal commentator Lee Cohen has claimed that Prince Andrew is "more popular" than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the United States, as the Duke of York has become the subject of Netflix's most recent feature film.

Scoop is a dramatisation of the Duke's infamous BBC Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis, and how the BBC secured the interview with Sam McAlister.

Appearing on GBN America, Cohen told host Nana Akua that US royal supporters are "less engaged" with the details of the royal's "scandal" compared to fans the UK.

Cohen claimed that the interview, in which Prince Andrew discussed his affiliation with Jeffrey Epstein and the allegations made against him by Virginia Giuffre, should "never have happened".

Cohen told GBN America: "His advisers did him a great disservice in either not preventing the interview entirely, or at least to ensure that he was properly equipped to face the challenges of modern media scrutiny."

Nana said Prince Andrew is "not portrayed as an idiot" in the film, but just as a "product of his environment".

Defending the royal against Netflix, Cohen fumed: "Why should Prince Andrew or any living person be made subject to a fictional account of their life with invented dialogue and innuendo?

"This is nothing but an attempt to re-vilify, many years on, the Prince again. He was just beginning to win some thawing in attitudes against him."

Nana was in agreement with Cohen, and blamed Netflix for "making up dramatisations and stories about people who are still alive".

Nana fumed: "I can't watch The Crown because I think it's a disgrace, frankly. But it's Netflix behind this again, isn't it?

"Netflix are behind the Sussex documentaries, The Crown, and now Scoop. I just I think we need to be having a word with Netflix."

Cohen agreed, and revealed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are "much more disliked" in America than Prince Andrew is.

When asked by Nana if he believes Prince Andrew should return to a working royal role, Cohen said his presence "shows that he loves the King, loves his brother and has an appreciation for family".

Cohen explained: "But I think for now, he probably shouldn't be undertaking working royal duties. But we have to point out that Prince Andrew too is a Counsellor of State."

Nana argued that there needs to be "more hands on deck" within the Royal Family, as the King and Princess Kate continue their cancer treatments in private.

She told GBN America: "I don't know whether they haven't got enough people, enough hands on deck.

"He hasn't been convicted of anything. I know it's an awful situation and he whole sort of association is a bit questionable, but still, who knows?"
